André Longtin is a professor of Physics at the University of Ottawa and held a URC in Neurophysics from 2011 to 2021. He is the director of the Center for Neural Dynamics which he co-founded in 2004.

Professor Longtin’s research focuses on the study of the interface of biophysics, nonlinear dynamics, applied mathematics, and neuroscience. Other relevant research interests include optical brain diagnostic and stimulation, optical random number generation, and networks with delays.

He obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc in Physics in 1983 and 1985 respectively at l’Université de Montréal, followed by a Ph.D. in Physics at McGill (1989). He then joined Los Alamos as an NSERC Postdoctoral fellow and a Los Alamos Director’s Funded Postdoctoral Fellow where he studied Complex Systems and T13. Professor Longtin became an Assistant Professor in 1992 and a Full-Professor 2002. In 2003, he was a fellow of the American Physical Society, and has been awarded the senior Humboldt Research Prize in 2010 and the NSERC Brockhouse Canada prize for interdisciplinary research (with Len Maler) in 2017.
