Thomas Brabec received his PhD (1992) and Habilitation (1997) from the Vienna University of Technology. He has been Professor in department of physics at the uOttawa, and Canada Research Chair in ultrafast photonics since 2002.

His expertise is in ultrafast sciences, nonlinear optics, quantum and classical dynamics, and strong field dynamics in gases and solids. He has published over 200 papers in these areas, amassing 20 000 citations, giving him an h-index of 58.
